The difference between wisdom and knowledge
In this age of information we must demonstrate to our youth the difference between information and wisdom. Wisdom is that which is passed down from the past and which imparts substance and enlightenment. Wisdom is not about information, and does not compete with worldly knowledge. Wisdom need not be in conflict with science, nor be linked to narrow mindedness. Wisdom is that which not only connects us to the best of human knowledge and experience, but links us to that which is eternal. Wisdom gives us the ability to relate to our Creator, to our culture and to others. The urgency of imparting this message is great, for we have a whole generation that is in danger of losing faith in God.

The Pharisees: Is It Lawful to Pay Taxes to Caesar?
15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk. 16 And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men. 17 Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, youhypocrites? 19 Show Me the tax money.”
So they brought Him a denarius.
20 And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”
21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.”

When i was in middle school i used to be amazed of the fact that the teachers were saying they we were in the “information age” and that the rate at which our knowledge bubble is increasing was so fast that by the year 2000 it will double in size every year. That was almost 40 years ago and I think that we have moved into the “Mis-Information Age.” With the barrage of bits of knowledge and information coming for every place imaginable, it seems that there is no real discernible way to know the facts but by true wisdom. And i feel that true wisdom can really only come from God. I Know we don’t have be always be at odds with science, but sometimes they seems to keep changing the definition of things so that the object in question meets the current criteria. The thing i have noticed in my short 10 year journey in Orthodoxy is that God’s definition and criteria has always been the same and his wisdom will save us. It seems so hard to tear our youth away from such an enticing world where science seems to have all the answers and seems to be able to show it, but only God truly has all the answers but only through faith can we see.
