“During the Nativity Fast, the devil becomes especially enraged. Quarrels, divisions, and temptations increase; unexpected obstacles appear – everything that the man-hating Satan devises. The aim of the evil one is to shake the ground beneath our feet and lead us into nervousness, so that we forget that the time of fasting is a time of inner peace and reconciliation with God and with our fellow men. Do not forget one very important thing: guard yourselves from sinful darkness. When problems arise or when there are ‘attacks’ of cunning spirits that stir people around us against us, preserve love and call upon God’s help through prayer: ‘Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me.’ He knows far better than we do how to deal with our difficulties, and through His divine providence the obstacles will be removed from our path.”
