Author: Abbot Tryphon

I am abbot of All-Merciful Saviour Orthodox Monastery (ROCOR) on Vashon Island, WA. The island is a twenty minute ferry ride from West Seattle, and a fifteen minute crossing from Tacoma. Surrounded by the Salish Sea, the island is some 87% undeveloped forest, with a rural population of around eleven thousand citizens. If you wish to contact me personally, you can email me at: abbottryphon@vashonmonks.com

July 2, 2022July 1, 2022 Abbot Tryphon

All Consuming Love

July 1, 2022June 30, 2022 Abbot Tryphon

The Prince of Peace is the Victorious Conqueror Revolutions, wars of conquest, and battles between nations, are all the sad consequences of our fallen world. Death and destruction are the results of our having fallen from grace, and giving in to personal pride and arrogance, all in the face of

Piety and Hypocrisy

June 29, 2022June 29, 2022 Abbot Tryphon

Putting Aside all Hypocrisy and Living for Christ How easy it is to worship with all piety and correctness while standing in a service within an Orthodox temple, yet make no effort to live Orthodoxy during the rest of our week. If we are abusive towards our spouse, abrasive with

Estrangement

June 28, 2022June 27, 2022 Abbot Tryphon

Responding To God’s Love Casts Aside All Estrangement When we feel estranged from God it is a true sign we are in need of working more diligently on building up our faith. Faith is a gift from God that requires our cooperation and when we are feeling dry we must

Situation Ethics

June 27, 2022June 26, 2022 Abbot Tryphon

Situation Ethics Versus Biblical Morality Situation ethics has become the norm for our times, having replaced the biblical ethics of past generations. In situation ethics as long as no one is hurt one can do as one pleases. Taking drugs, watching pornography and aborting the unborn child, all can come

Guarding Our Thoughts

June 26, 2022June 25, 2022 Abbot Tryphon

We Must Drive Out All Negative Thoughts Our thoughts really do have an impact on our world. Negative thoughts about family members or fellow employees change our relationships. If we dislike someone at work and allow ourselves to think poorly of them, they are likely to fulfill our low expectations.
