Author: Abbot Tryphon

I am abbot of All-Merciful Saviour Orthodox Monastery (ROCOR) on Vashon Island, WA. The island is a twenty minute ferry ride from West Seattle, and a fifteen minute crossing from Tacoma. Surrounded by the Salish Sea, the island is some 87% undeveloped forest, with a rural population of around eleven thousand citizens. Balance

June 16, 2024June 15, 2024 Abbot Tryphon

Strong Medicine Balances Our Sinful Nature In monasticism a monk weeps during the night over his sins that he might rejoice during the day. He knows that there is a danger in emphasizing God’s all loving nature to the exclusion of His righteous wrath. Our life in Christ must be

First Encounter

June 15, 2024June 15, 2024 Abbot Tryphon

Encountering the Precious, Ageless, and Sacred   The very first time I entered an Orthodox church I felt drawn to Her. There was a tangible, inner tug, and an overwhelming sense of peace, holiness, and awe, emanating from the very walls of the temple. The serving clergy were not the
